Tracks Bar Grand Central Station

Interiors

Tracks Raw Bar and Grill at Grand Central Madison is a new venture by restaurateur Bruce Caulfield, known for running the iconic Tracks Bar at Penn Station for decades.

Located within the Grand Central Madison concourse, the restaurant and bar evoke movement and speed through horizontal lines. The program includes a commercial kitchen in an adjacent space, a standing bar facing the concourse, a main bar with a drink rail overlooking the LIRR ticketing area, and two seating zones with booths and banquettes. An aluminum tube structure around the booths and banquettes creates a sense of enclosure, integrates lighting and TVs, and recalls a train section x-ray—a nod to the original Tracks Restaurant and its railroad theme.

The material selection balances two goals. First, it aligns with the concourse aesthetic of metal panels and glass while meeting non-combustible material requirements from a station-wide egress study. Second, it fosters an inviting atmosphere with a gradient of metal tones, curves, fluted glass, and leather upholstery made with fire-rated aviation foams, softening and warming the space.

Inspiration

Horizontal Flow

Architectural elements glide smoothly, guiding the eye and body through a seamless spatial progression with a sense of direction and pace.

More than Horizontal Flow

Stepped Gradient

Rhythmic steps interrupt the gradual color transitions, introducing a sense of progression and motion while remaining constructible within reasonable means.

Tracks Bar Grand Central Station

Tracks Raw Bar and Grill at Grand Central Madison is a new restaurant venture by Bruce Caulfield, longtime operator of the iconic Tracks Bar at Penn Station, featuring dynamic horizontal lines and an aluminum tube structure that nods to its railroad theme. Located within the Grand Central Madison concourse near the LIRR ticketing area, this contemporary eatery combines metal panels, fluted glass, and leather upholstery to meet strict fire-rating standards in the concourse while maintaining a warm, inviting atmosphere.
